CTMH Scrapbooking/Cardmaking Clubs

Close to My Heart Clubs
With Krista Bustard – CTMH Independent Consultant

What are the clubs?

A Scrap Club is when a group of six people agree to make a purchase of $30 (before shipping and tax) for six consecutive months. Each person will alternate being the hostess, and we will get together to place our orders, crop and learn new or re-visit favorite techniques.

A Hostess Club is when you agree to host a gathering in your home (or in mine) three times during the year, once during each tri-annual catalog.

Why should I sign up? There are benefits for each club so choose the one that is right for you.

Benefits of the Scrap Club:
1. You will receive a tri-annual Close to My Heart catalog at no cost and prior to its release to the general public (when I get it you get it).
2. Everyone will have the opportunity to be hostess during one of the club months thus resulting in free hostess gifts.
3. During your hostess month, you will receive a minimum of $30 in free merchandise from the catalog. Your benefits can soar to $100 or more as your sales increase. You are welcome to take outside catalog orders or host an in-home demonstration during your hostess month in order boost your sales.
4. Every member will receive 5% off anything new to the catalog during the first month of a new Idea Books release. Specials are not included in this offer.
5. Each member will receive 20% off any one item from the catalog during their birth month (shipping and tax not included).
6. All members choosing to renew at the end of their commitment will receive their choice of Stamp Pad FREE

It is a great way to budget and slowly add to your stamp and scrapbook collection.

Benefits of the Hostess Club:
1. You will receive a tri-annual Close to My Heart catalog at no cost to you at each of your gatherings.
2. Since you are agreeing to host a gathering during each tri-annual period you will reap the rewards outlined in the hostess benefits. All you will need to do is host a gathering in your home during the three periods in which at least two people place an order and the total order is equal to or greater than $200.
3. All Hostess Club members will receive double hostess rewards during their third party.
4. All Hostess Club members will receive a free stamp pad whenever they get someone else to book a gathering from theirs, and at their third gathering. It is a great way to earn free products for those who like to entertain at their homes.

When does the fun begin?
The club benefits start in September so sign up NOW. If the scrap club has filled up you will go on a waiting list until we get another 6 people together for a club.

Don’t delay!

If you have any questions, please contact me!

Tuesday April 10 Scrap Class - A Year To Remember

This is what you're going to need:
-12 pictures (in my layout, I used one picture from each month last year)
*side note: I printed mine off in black & white, it kind of gives it a neat feel, and not so much color with all the different pictures.. other themes you could do are: 12 months of a baby, 12 years of school, or whatever.. *
-1 piece of cardstock for your background (I used black in mine)
-2 pieces of white paper
-2 pieces of patterned paper (one full sheet, and another little "scrap piece that is 12" long, but doesn't have to be very wide (about 1 1/2")
-letter stickers, chipboard, etc for your title.
-any embellishments (I used a cut out of a clock - you could print one out of Clip Art on your computer on cardstock if you want one, and don't have one). I also used little "bling" gems that I got at the Dollar Store. These added a lot to the page, but were VERY tedious to put on, as they had to go on one by one.
The second layout in no shape way or form coordinates with the year to remember layout.. you could however make it work!
This is what you're going to need..
-1 piece of plain background paper
-1 piece of patterned paper
-2 4x6 photos (we won't be cropping these) (or, if you want to crop, bring 4 of them!!) - these could be 2 horizontal pictures, or 1 horizontal picture, and one vertical picture.
-any embellishments for your page.
See ya on Tuesday night!!

A Year To Remember - Monday March 5 Scrap Class

Hey girls - this is one of the layouts we're doing in Monday's class.. you're going to need:
I wanted to give you girls a heads up on this layout - because it may take most of the weekend to get pictures together!!
**Added Friday March 2..**
The second layout in no shape way or form coordinates with the year to remember layout.. you could however make it work! I don't have a picture yet, but this is what you're going to need..
-1 piece of plain background paper
-1 piece of patterned paper
-2 4x6 horizontal photos (we won't be cropping these) (or, if you want to crop, bring 4 of them!!)
-any embellishments for your page.
I hope to post this picture tonight when i get home...
enjoy the snowstorm everyone!!

Playing With Chipboard

Hey girls - just found this on www.splitcoaststampers.com message boards - thought I'd share!!

Getting On Board with Chipboard
(compiled by Ann Jobes)

Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, chipboard is showing up as a standard embellishment on cards, mini albums, 3-D projects and especially on scrapbook pages.
Chipboard’s versatility is what makes it such a fun and favourable addition to your scrapbook pages and cards. It is kraft coloured, acid free, made of recycled paper. Because chipboard is made out of cardboard, stamping directly on it will not leave a crisp clear stamped images. For smoother and crisper images stamp on cardstock or paper first and adhere that to your chipboard or ink or paint the element before stamping.

Here’s a list of things you can with your chipboard pieces to individualize each accent for your projects:

1. Stamps of course. Paint your shape and then choose word or image stamps stamp on the die cut. Black inked words on a heart painted red, for instance, can be quite dramatic. Or try inking on your alphabet stamps.
2. Get out your stamp pads and ink directly onto the chipboard. Pigment ink, such as craft pads especially provide great coverage. Alternately, you can brayer your favourite ink colours on. Why not try the metallic ink? Heat set!
3. Acrylic paint – brush or spray on your favourite acrylic paints – try a metallic.
4. Use scraps of designer paper to create a collage look, or cover in one larger piece to co-ordinate with your page. To do this, place your letter on the wrong side of the patterned paper and trace with a pencil then cut out. This way you don't see the pencil lines. Cut out with a pair of fine tip scissors. To adhere, try the pop glue dots or dimensionals to make them stand out even more.
5. Use up your ribbon scraps by spraying adhesive on the chipboard and laying the ribbon scraps down on top. Trim off ends.
6. Try embossing on your chipboard. Stamp with VersaMark and sprinkle on the embossing powder. Use your heat tool to melt. Then use craft or classic ink directly on the die cut. Use a tissue to wipe off the embossed images.
7. Because the chipboard comes on a 12 x 12 sheet, you can use the chipboard 'template' that the letters and shapes come in to trace onto regular cardstock too!
8. Sand them. Apply ink, paint or designer papers and then take the sanding blocks to the edges.
9. Cover your chipboard with flowers.
10. Use them like stamps, painting on the reverse side and pressing down onto cardstock to create a distressed image.
11. Adhere an assortment of different sized buttons on the chipboard die cut using glue dots or liquid adhesive.
12. Apply spray adhesive to the shape and then wrap with fibers to add tons of texture to your page.
13. Coloured rub-ons are a no-muss way to dress up plain chipboard pieces. Go a step further by tracing around each rub-on with the Zig painty pen in gold/silver
14. Photos – Use a xyron machine or spray adhesive to adhere a photo to your chipboard die cut, turn upside down on a cutting mat and use a hobby knife (p 223) to trace the shape.
15. Accessorize with funky ribbon or rafia and use it along with a few small shells on your “fun in the sun” page.
16. Still have some extra, un-used alphabet stickers around. Place them collage style on your die-cut.
17. Craft stores carry a line of spray paints that look like stone. Apply with a brush for a rougher texture.
18. Use spray adhesive to cover the die cut evenly and lay on a scrap of fabric to “dress up” a chipboard element. Trim around the edges.
19. Another way to apply ink: use craft reinkers. Pour a few drops onto a plastic lid or paint tray and then pick it up with a flat watercolour paintbrush. This way you could have co-ordinating colours on the same element.

For any of these ideas, to finish the look, don’t forget:
• Tie ribbon around the accent or punch holes and tie a ribbon through it.
• Add brads or hodgepodge too.
• Try layering smaller chipboard elements onto larger ones.
• The sky's the limit.

Tuesday February 27th's class

We're doing 4 pages on Monday night!!

Here's what you will need to bring to class:

-4 pictures, the "stand-up way" (vertical)
-2 pieces of paper of one color - cardstock is preferred, but if you want to use lighter paper, make sure you've got a couple pieces of spare cardstock to stick in your album behind the pages to make them stiffer.. in this layout, I used a solid color pattern paper
-2 pieces of patterned paper - not the same.. one of the pages should have a bolder pattern than the other
-letters for your title - stickers, chipboard, etc
-some ribbon if you wish - or you can use paper, and cut a thin strip
-other embellishments - I used flowers and brads

for layout #3 & 4 -

Supplies to bring -
-Christmas cards/Birthday cards/Baby Shower cards - cards of some sort - preferrably ones you've already received from someone.. about 10
-2 pieces cardstock of one color - that matches the "theme" of your cards
-1 piece of patterned paper that matches the "theme"
-embellishments
-2 pictures that match the theme of the cards (horizontal)

As always, don't forget to bring your basics.. paper trimmer, scissors, marker, adhesive, slippers and anything else you think you may need!

Cards For Shane

Hi Girls -

As I mentioned in last night's class (Monday's class) here is the info on the Cards For Shane campaign...

Tuesday night girls, you can do this for Tuesday night February 27 if you like, or on March 13. I will talk about it on Tuesday night.

If you haven't heard about this (it is now on several websites, BT and a radio station) then let me tell you about something we can all do. Here is the radios website http://www.1053kissfm.com/station_info/cartersandraboyle.jsp

Very Touching indeed!! A little boy age seven, soon to be 8 named Shane has leukemia and his dying wish is to be in the guiness world book of records for receiving the most birthday cards. His birthday is May 30th but he would like to receive these cards before his birthday.

What I will do - is instead of mailing the cards yourself, Compupro Scrapbooking in Fredericton has agreed to mail all of the cards in a bulk package.

What I want you to do - is instead of bringing your toonie to the next class (Monday March 5 or Tuesday March 13), bring a birthday card that you have made. This is your homework. You don't have to participate if you don't want to, but it is encouraged.

Just imagine this little guy's face when he gets the package of all of these handmade Birthday cards! Makes me tear up just thinking about it.

If you would like more info - drop me a line at kbustard@primus.ca
